IOWA BISHOPS RELEASE VIDEO MESSAGE

The Catholic bishops of Iowa have released a message of encouragement and invitation during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the bishops say, “social distancing is not spiritual distancing.” The bishops also ask people to act for the common good. To see the video, go to https://youtu.be/ejeeBoNdIxY.

SPEAKING OUT ON LABOR, CARE OF CREATION

The Catholic bishops of the United States have long held that the most effective way to build a just economy is to have decent work at decent wages available for all those capable of working. When the economy fails to generate sufficient jobs, there is a moral obligation to protect the life and dignity of unemployed and underemployed workers and their families. Archbishop Paul S. Coakley of Oklahoma City and Bishop David J. Malloy of Rockford, respective chairmen of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Committees on Domestic Justice and Human Development and International Justice and Peace, issued a pastoral message for the annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation: “September 1 marks the five-year anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation in the Catholic Church … We invite every Catholic and all people of good will who care for our common home in the United States to increase efforts towards ecological conversion during this Season of Creation. May our prayers and our witness reflect the words and deeds of Jesus, who ‘went about doing good and healing’ (Acts 10:38).”
