Respect Life Programs

Birthright

Birthright is a very fine organization that helps women who are in a crisis pregnancy situation. We can give them financial support by having a Birthright Rose Fund Drive. If your council is in a city that has a Birthright office, offer them your Council’s help. There are many activities that Knights and their families can assist with in support of Birthright.

The Iowa Knights of Columbus are promoting statewide “Baby Showers for Jesus” to benefit Birthright and other local help agencies.

Billboards for Life

The state council gathered at convention resolved to place as many Respect Life billboards along the “Avenue of the Saints” as could be accomplished. This goal is applicable to all councils around the state as a means of stating publicly our support of Right to Life. The idea is to protect human life from the time of conception through natural death. We need to shout our support and belief in the Right to Life

March for Life Project

This year our State Chaplain, the Reverend Brian Danner has a goal: that each KofC Council sends at least one person to the March for Life in Washington DC. We need to do our best to honor Father’s request. Let’s work together to help attain this simple goal.

Respecting all Life is a family issue so let’s involve our whole family. Invite your wife. Invite your children. Invite your neighbors. Invite your parish. Invite your RCIA group. Invite your Catholic Daughters, your squires, your school. You get the picture: invite all groups!

What is the significance of January 22 nd every year?

In 1973 an unfortunately famous court case called “Roe v Wade’ was settled on a ruling from the United States Supreme court. This decision gave carte blanche permission legalizing abortion on demand and struck a blow to basic moral standards as the basis for civil society. The following year on January 22nd 1974 a small group of 20,000 protestors descended upon our nation’s capitol in an effort to stand up for innocent children in the womb. Each year the number of people joining in this effort has risen and now exceeds a quarter million faithful. The March for Life is heavily supported by the Knights of Columbus.

Spiritual Adoption

Birth Announcement: Born August 25th a baby girl Catherine Marie. This baby girl was spiritual adopted last November and her anticipated birth announced to the parish. Our prayers for her and many others need to continue so she has the opportunity to grow as a child of God, endowed with His life and His grace and a dignity all her own that no one can diminish. For more ideas to use this gift to serve each other, especially the weakest and most defenseless see the link below.

Pro-Life Events

40 Days for Life

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: prayer and fasting, constant vigil and community outreach. Following successful local 40 Days for Life campaigns from 2004-2006, the first national campaign was conducted in more than 80 cities in fall 2007.
