9/10 – 14/2007 Council Level Soccer Kick Contest

Pella Council #12334 recently held a very successful Council Level Soccer Kick Contest.
182 local youth participated during the week long event.
Council Trustee, Michael Buchheit & Brother Phil Meirick organized this event.
They promoted the event within the community youth soccer league.
Pella Council is looking forward to hosting Regional and State competitions in October.

Religious Recognition - Sr. Lucy Frein

The Knights of Columbus of Joseph C. Carroll Council 5390 in Marion; recently honored Sr. Lucy Frein by taking her to
lunch. Immediate Past Grand Knight Chuck Luster, Iowa State Council Church Activities Chairman, Ken Bauer and Grand
Knight John Stapley presented her with a Certificate of Appreciation for 53 years of dedicated service to the
Sisters of Mercy and Cedar Rapids-Marion area Catholics. Knights of Columbus are dedicated to honoring religious
sisters, brothers, priests and lay ecclesial leaders by recognizing the important roles these individuals fulfill
and how they contribute to the vitality of a faith community.

August 10, 2007 - Tugfest Parade in Leclaire

On August 10 the Knights and families of Council #13084, Our Lady of the River, were in the Leclaire, IA
"Tugfest Parade" for the fith year. The Tugfest is where two cities along the Mississippi River stretch a
large rope across the river and tug it out to see who is the best. This years parade was under the theme of
Hometown Heros. Council 13084's float's theme was the American Farmer. Their float was picked as first place
out of more than 50 floats. Council 13084 is the home for their leader and mentor, Msgr Leo Feeney

August 9, 2007 - Tootsie Roll Drive in Manchester

Council 1962 conducted their tootsie roll drive on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at St Mary's in Manchester on Sunday. The total to date is about $3000, and they still have the commercial drive to complete. The council (small it may be) puts a huge effort in this drive and takes pride in the results. Many members who are not active in other events really go out for this one! Pictured are Jerad Moorman, Steve Moorman, Robert Frentress, Bernard Monaghan and Leo Monaghan.

June 15 - 16, 2007 - Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament held in LeMars

30 teams from across the state participated in the 2007 Knight’s of Columbus State Golf Tournament held in

June 17, 2007 - Congrats to the North Linn Council 12136

Congratulations to the North Linn Council 12136. Grand Knight Don Reichenauer has faithfully turned
in "Family of the Month" nominations all year. His efforts resulted in two families from their parish
cluster being chosen as award recipients for the State of Iowa. James & Julie Pflughaupt for October and
James & Karen Thielen for February. Presentations of family bibles were made on Father's Day June 17th.
Brother Reichenauer also made a number of other nominations resulting in Father Wayne Droessler, Pastor of
their cluster, being chosen as "Chaplain of the Year" for the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The Council conducted
a pancake breakfast that morning after Mass continuing a new tradition of Knights in Service.
Council 12136 went on to achieve Star Council status for the 2006-2007 fraternal year.

June 10, 2007 - Founders Day Picnic

Saturday, June 10, 2007, Holy Trinity Parish celebrated the first of many Founders Day Picnics from noon untill
4:00 p.m.. Council #14029 planned and executed the entire picnic. They served over 450 meals, had live parish
entertainment, and old fashioned kids games. A great time was had by all!

May 12, 2007 - New Squires Council

May 12, Gary Boles (Grand Knight) and Mike Linde (Deputy Grand Knight) of the Pella Council #12334 traveled to
Dubuque to help establish a new Squires Circle.

Pella Squire's "Dutch Saints Circle" had a fun day which included an Investiture, dodge ball and camping!

June 10, 2007 - Corpus Christi

A Eucharistic Procession for the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) was held
June 10 after Mass at St. Cecilia Parish in Ames. The procession went from Saint Cecilia Church to Inis
Grove Park where Fr. Nienhaus lead Benediction. A light lunch was served after Benediction. The beautiful
event was a mindful display of Jesus' Real Presence. Pope John Paul II reminded us: "The devout participation
of the faithful in the Eucharistic procession of the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ is a grace from
the Lord which yearly brings joy to those who take part in it." Ecclesia de Eucharista. The event was sponsored
by Eucharistic Adoration & Knights of Columbus Council 2230. Deputy GK Tracy Laws and GK Mark Bortle served as
crossing guards. Dick Matt, Don DoBell, Mike Heitzman, Tom Samson, and Sly Upah served in the 4th Degree Honor
Guard. Several other Knights assisted with various tasks during the procession.

June 1, 2007 - BBQ Fund Raiser

Knights of Columbus Council 13109 held a fund raiser for their fellow parishioner and Knight, Ken Halbur, Jr.
Ken is just two years away from ordination. The BBQ was a huge success with 15 Knights serving 180 people and
they raised $2,000.00 for Ken. They also were honored to have present (from left to right) Fr. Howard Fitzgerald
(pastor), Ken, Fr. Chris Fontanini (diocesan vocations director), and Msgr. Jerry Stessman.

Feb. 19, 2007 - Double Star Council Award

On Monday 2/19 State Deputy Michael Gaspers traveled to Sioux City in order to present a double star council
award to Council 11038. This award recognizes extraordinary achievement in membership growth in addition to
meeting all the requirements of insurance promotion, forms recording and service projects.

Marty Pasker - District Deputy, Fr. Merlin Schrad - Pastor and Chaplain. The main architect of this achievement
is Grand Knight Kerry T. Bressler who was in Texas on business and could not be present.

Feb. 12, 2007 - Gibbons presented with Jacket

The Grand Knight of 2326 Storm Lake was presented with his Jacket on February 12, 2007. The council had a nice
husband and wife meal of bacon wrapped chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas and sweetheart cupcake
desserts.

Oct. 28, 2006 - Memorial to the Unborn

A dedication of the new Memorial to the Unborn was held October 28 in Sheldon, Iowa. There was a nice turn out at
the cemetery where Father Schimmer and State Deputy Mike Gaspers both gave a short talks. From there they adjorned
to the church for Saturday evening mass and Honor Guard followed by a pork roast supper in the church basement. A
very nice family oriented event.

Dec. 8, 2006 - Msgr. Leo Freeney Honored

Council #13084 honored their parish priest, Msgr. Leo Freeney, with a plaque to recognize his
40 years of service as a priest. The plaque was presented at their "Light up for Christmas" social.
The plaque reads: "We dedicate this tree to our pastor, our chaplain, and the rock and founder of our council.
Our Lady of the River Council #13084". A new tree was planted, decorated and lit to commemorate the event.
Present in the photo are Grand Knight Ed Rumpza, Iowa State Executive Committee Gerry Rank, Msgr Leo Feeney,
Deputy Grand Knight Wiley Plummer and District Deputy #29 Tim Tisinger.
