Monthly Posting - August 2011
1) Have a welcome back celebration! Doesn't have to be big, or cost a bunch of money, but do SOMETHING. It could be a simple as meeting up for dinner in the dorms, or watching a movie or playing some cards at your Newman/Student Center. You have to regain that bonding with your brothers.
2) Conduct three events within the first 2 weeks of the year. Now I know, people are busy trying to buy books, get academic scheduled situated, and landing that off-campus job. But you also know that within the first couple of weeks of the year, every major student organization on your campus is pushing their stuff. Be in that mix as well. Do something spiritual, something social, and something service.
3) Get your schedule set! The sooner you can get your schedule out in front of people, the sooner you have the upper hand in staying on their schedule. We want people to reschedule their commitments around us, not the other way around.
4) Meet with your Chaplain. Make sure they are involved in the planning for the year. What things does he need done- both physical and spiritual? Is there a specific avenue that your Council could assist with? Maybe it serving as voices for the hungry, the homeless, or the sick. Or there are students that are confined to their homes that need Eucharist brought to them?
5) Contact the other KC Councils in your local area. As a College KC program, you have no greater resource than the other Knights and Councils around your school. Call them, visit their meetings, invite them to your events. Communication is the first step to partnership!
If you do these 5 things, you will have a fantastic year! Know of my prayers for you, and my continued support!
Fraternally,
Paul
